10 Things You May Not Know About Anna

1. Anna’s Origins

Early in Frozen’s story development, Anna was going to be a peasant who asks the Snow Queen to free her frozen heart, and she had no relation to Elsa. However, as the filmmakers struggled to mesh the two characters, they hit upon the notion of making Anna and Elsa sisters, thus providing them with a believable and emotional relationship.

2. Greta?

Anna was also going to be named Greta, after “The Snow Queen”’s original heroine, Gerda.

3. Sing It Loud

Even though Elsa sings the film’s signature song, “Let It Go,” it is Anna who does the most singing of all the characters in Frozen.

4. A Subtle Change

One of Anna’s early designs portrayed her as having platinum blonde hair. This was later changed to strawberry blonde.

5. In Case You Had Trouble Telling the Sisters Apart…

Speaking of hair, Anna, being the younger sister, has two braids, one more than Elsa.

6. Happy Birthday

In contrast to Elsa, who was born on the Winter Solstice, Anna was fittingly born on the Summer Solstice.

7. Yum!

One of Anna’s favorite desserts is krumkake, a thin waffle-like cookie shaped like an ice cream cone stuffed with sweet fillings.

8. Wait, Who Was That?

In Zootopia, a little elephant girl wearing an outfit resembling Anna’s winter outfit can be seen wandering around in Tundratown. Next to her is another elephant girl wearing an outfit styled after Elsa’s ‘Snow Queen’ gown!

9. That’s Nice Of Her, I Guess?

In Ralph Breaks the Internet, she is the only one of the Disney Princesses not to threaten Vanellope with a weapon or magic. Instead, she balls up her fists…watch out, Vanellope!

10. A Star In Her Own Right

Anna and Elsa were originally meant to join the Disney Princess lineup as the twelfth and thirteenth Princesses respectively. However, since the pair had proved to be so popular on their own, it was decided they would instead be the stars of their own franchise based on the film. Even though they are not official Disney Princesses, they can often be seen with the other princesses and were also referenced as Disney Princesses in “Sofia the First.”
